We trained local people to conduct waterbird monitoring and survey in their sites particularly aquaculture ponds and mudflat in Banyuasin peninsula. We look forward to be active in birdwatching and bird conservation.
Summary:
To celebrate 2020, an event of “Waterbirds awareness to local people in Banyuasin Peninsula through birdwatching and other educational activities” has been carried out during 14-17 October 2020. The event was conducted in Banyuasin peninsula, South Sumatra, Indonesia by Kelompok Pengamat Burung Spirit of South Sumatra (KPB-SOS). This area is an Important Bird Area (IBA), important wetland sites in Indonesia, Ramsar site and one of the EAAF site. The mudflat of the area has been known as habitat of thousands of migratory shorebirds. To support conservation in this area, we conduct events; train local peope about waterbirds, bird migratory, survey and monitoring; and waterbird monitoring with local people and site managers in aquaculture ponds and mudflat in Banyuasin peninsula. It is hope local people will as one in front of conservation warriors to support waterbirds conservation in this region. To achieve these, we donate a bird field guide, a binocular and a long zoom camera to local group community.
