The East Asian–Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) proudly welcomes Eco Foundation Global (EFG) as its 41st official Partner. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in addressing critical challenges, including climate change, biodiversity conservation, coastal ecological restoration, and the promotion of ecological awareness—particularly in safeguarding wetlands and migratory waterbirds along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway.
Founded in 2012 with the approval of the Chinese government, EFG is a public welfare foundation dedicated to advancing ecological civilisation and sustainable development. Its mission prioritises fostering a “green economy” while tackling humanity’s most pressing environmental issues. While proudly rooted in China, EFG’s influence extends globally, strengthened by strategic partnerships with UN agencies, international organisations, and a vast network of experts. EFG’s commitment to cross-sector collaboration—engaging governments, businesses, academia, media, and civil society—resonates strongly with the objectives of the EAAFP.
The partnership between EFG and the EAAFP has evolved over the years, beginning with their cooperation at the Yancheng Symposium in 2017. EFG’s instrumental role in establishing the World Coastal Forum (WCF) highlights its dedication to fostering impactful collaborations and demonstrated its leadership in coastal conservation efforts by being one of the founding members of the WCF Coordination Group. The partnership was further cemented in 2023 when EAAFP joined the WCF Partnership during the inaugural WCF Conference. As a co-facilitator of the WCF, EFG contributes to the development of the World Coastal Ecosystem Conservation Toolkit, an open-access online resource aimed at providing science-based and evidence-driven guidance for the protection, conservation, sustainable management, and restoration of coastal ecosystems—especially habitats critical to migratory waterbirds.
At the 11th Meeting of Partners (MOP11) in 2023, EFG participated as an observer and hosted a side event focused on the WCF. This engagement provided EFG with valuable insights into EAAFP’s mission and strategic priorities. Recent joint initiatives at the UN Convention on Migratory Species COP14 in Samarkand underscore the deepening cooperation between EFG, the EAAFP Secretariat, and other WCF partners.
As a new member of the Partnership, EFG, in collaboration with WCF, provides the EAAFP with a global platform to foster stronger synergies and develop innovative cooperative mechanisms, including contributions to the development of technical guidance for the effective management and restoration of coastal wetlands.
