The EAAFP Secretariat hereby requests expressions of interest for hosting the EAAFP 12th Meeting of Partners (MOP12) tentatively proposed for early 2025. Since 2006, A total of ten MOPs have been hosted by seven Government Partners (Indonesia, People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Cambodia, the U.S.A., Japan, and Singapore), with an increase in Partners, Working Groups, Task Forces, and observers at each event. MOP11 will occur this year from the 12 -17th of March in Brisbane, Australia. To assist with the proactive planning, the Secretariat now seeks a National Government Partner to host MOP12.
The MOPs are a very important event for the Partnership as it provides a crucial platform for collaboration and interaction which serves to guide the implementation of the EAAFP Strategic Plan. It is an occasion where the Partners may assess the areas of success of the EAAFP and give suggestions as to the formulation of new initiatives that may benefit the objective of conserving migratory waterbirds and their habitats in the EAAF.
The National Government Partner may benefit greatly from being host of a MOP, as it can be used as a vehicle to promote their country’s commitment to biodiversity conservation as well as receive international recognition via the hosting of a meeting, involving Partners from 18 Countries as well as various governmental and inter-governmental agencies. The participation of high-level officials and key stakeholders attending MOP may also aid in the mainstreaming of the conservation agenda and initiatives into the discussion of government policy which may aid future conservation efforts. It will also provide the host country with valuable media coverage, highlight their internationally important sites, and allow them to position themselves as a leader in taking action in the Flyway.
The Secretariat sincerely requests that the Partners, especially National Focal Points, actively consider the possibility of hosting the EAAFP MOP12.
