Black-faced Spoonbill is arriving at their wintering grounds. The EAAFP Black-faced Spoonbill Working Group (convened by Hong Kong Bird Watching Society) is announcing the 2022 International Black-faced Spoonbill Census, which will be held on 7-9 January, 2022.
Since the commencement of the census in 1993, it is conducted mostly by volunteer birdwatchers with aids from professional conservationists and site managers. More than 100 surveyors join this census every year, hence this has become an important awareness-raising and citizen science programme for this species. The results of this long-term monitoring programme provide the best data of population changes of the Endangered species.
